Quick Pastry

This pastry recipe is great for savoury pies, such as tortiere.

2-1/2 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. vegetable shortening (room temperature)
1/2 c. boiling water

1. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
2. Place the shortening in a food processor fit with a metal blade. Process until smooth.
3. With the machine running, add the boiling water and process until combined .
4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the shortening mixture. Process until the dough comes together. It may be necessary to use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
5. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.
