A taste of Collioure
Zena Besterd of London samples Banyuls red wine at Dominicain in Collioure, France. Besterd was one of eight women joining Jill on a tour of the Southwest region of France in May.

Collioure is a beautiful seaside town in the south of France that was home to the Fauvist movement in the early 1900s. Artists such as Picasso, Matisse and Dali were known to have spent time in Collioure.

Today, Collioure is home to many art galleries and specialty stores featuring the famous white anchovies of that region. Wine-making continues to play an important role in the region, as well.
Banyuls wines are drawn from the both gray and white Grenache, Macaebeo, Malvasia and Muscat grapes, which are still hand-harvested on the steep terraced vineyards. Banyuls is also very well known for its vinegars that are aged for at least five years.
